Cap and Trade

The house recently passed H.R. 2454 by a vote of 219-212. Due to pressure by groups like ours, the Senate has tabled consideration of the bill until September at the earliest. Even though it is on the back burner for the moment, we must keep working to ensure that it does not pass the Senate.

Call to Action

We have a two pronged strategy designed to ensure this economy-wrecking bill fails:

1. Contact Senators who are on the energy committee.
2. Contact the Republican National Committee and the National Republican Congressional Committee.

Contacting the Senators is obvious - we wish to prevent the bill from passing out of committee. Contacting the RNC and NRCC is a bit more subtle. Recall, that the 219-212 house vote had 8 Republicans who voted for the bill. The bottom line is that if Republicans had voted in unity against the bill, we wouldn't be where we're at right now. It would have failed. The goal of contacting the RNC and NRCC is to let the defectors know that there will be consequences for their actions. This will influence those individuals if a final bill comes back in front of the House for a final vote, and also show wavering Senators that we are a force to be reckoned with.
